Capt. Will Newman
My saltwater fishing experiences begin earlier than I can remember. I’ve been fortunate to grow up spending summers along the Wilmington coast and call the waters of Onslow Bay home. As a child, I began fishing with my dad for red drum and flounder in the sound. As I grew older, I became increasingly fascinated with offshore fishing, catching king mackerel a few miles off the beach. My first mahi-mahi sparked an even greater passion for blue-water offshore fishing.
After my sophomore year in high school, I began my own boat detailing operation in Wilmington. The following summer, a customer reached out and asked if I would show him how to tie fishing rigs in his garage. This was an exciting opportunity for me, and I truly enjoyed sharing my passion with a friend.
In summer of 2020, I began working as a fishing guide for neighbors in Wilmington. In 2022, I obtained my US Coast Guard captain license and founded Onslow Bay Guide Services. My goal is to share my passion and knowledge of fishing with anglers of all ages and skillsets.
I recently graduated from Davidson College in 2023 where I majored in biology. I’m taking a gap year from my studies to develop the guide service and apply to medical school.
